One of the major difficulties when trying to read an audio or video file is to have the necessary codec’s. There are two ways to achieve its goals: using an embedded software codec’s as VLC media player, or install a package of codec’s. While much software packages and give a satisfactory result in 32 bits, it is at all the same in 64 bits. Since the release of Windows Vista, Microsoft offers a 64-bit version of Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center. For the latter, only 64-bit version is available with Windows Vista 64, unlike WMP which is available in two versions, by default, the 32-bit version. Vista Codec Package is a package of codec’s divided into two parts:
After installing the two packages, starting with the Windows Vista Codec package and the Vista Codec x64 Components, a lot of shortcuts are added to the Windows Start menu. A section is dedicated to 32-bit, another at 64 bits and one for common configurations. Note that the settings can be configured differently in 32-bit and 64 bit and they are stored separately. Start by going in "VistaCodecs \ 64bit Tools \ Default Media Player" where there are two shortcuts:
To verify that your WMP is in 64-bit, go to the Task Manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC, or right click on the taskbar) while the drive is opened in the Processes tab and search for "WMPlayer. exe ". If the name is followed by * 32, then your player is in 64 bits. To download 32bit codecs visit this page. Source SoftwareTipsPalace.com Blog
