Windows Azure is a distributed application platform as a service. This is the competing offer to Redmond proposes that Amazon EC2 with: there are accommodation, storage of the database, synchronization, the message bus and so on. If the offer is of course centered on Microsoft products, sources indicate that this is now Azure could provide persistent virtual machines running Linux.

According to Mary-Jo Foley of ZDnet, Microsoft could offer a spring first Community Technology Preview (CTP) of the capacity of persistent virtual machine. This means that customers can create virtual machines and permanent use over a long period without loss of status. But the surprising information is that this capacity would be used with Windows and Linux

This information is followed by a major update to Azure last month which added several features and again saw clearly down the cost of service. Among the innovations was a function called "VM Role" laying the foundations for the creation of virtual machines. But it was more a beta than a real feature and the details were missing. In addition, the machines were not persistent: any restart was losing the current status.
