Seven Transformation Pack 4.0 - Viva la x64! Viva la Vista!

Finally, after about 3 months of grand release crafted for perfection 3.0, version 4.0 has arrived. Anticipating what I pointed before that this release will be x64 and Vista centric development, it may sound little sad for XP users since those glories fall for Windows Vista mostly and some infamous XP x64 users. However, this release still worths a shot for old fan XP users since it covered significant updates for 3rd-party applications like ViStart and TrueTransparency with some fixes  and updates in program itself, too.

Keynotes

Featured Windows Vista enhancements
The wait is over. Now Windows Vista users can enjoy the Sevenization equally to Windows XP users. This version covers more updates in system files. You can customize Shell UI elements like file transfer and Start Menu logoff buttons, Startup animation and tray icons to match with Windows 7. It provides support for modified visual styles with giannisgx89's famous Windows 7 visual style pre-installed. It's time to go fooling your friends around with this customized Windows Vista that can be perceived as Windows 7. If you think there's somewhere I can do more with system files modification, tell me so I can prepare it for ya. I don't want to mess with minor character icons though :D

x64 system files modification
Another wait is over. Now your Windows XP x64 Edition (aka 2003 in XP shell) and Windows Vista x64 Edition can fully support system files modification. Before I explain how hard to make x64 system files support, let me tell you that applications in this version supports x64 now and you can skip this long paragraph. Since Windows XP x64 Edition doesn't have sysnative folder for x86 application, I have to find workaround solutions that can work with both OS and I found subst command-line that redirection doesn't affact. However, reshacker-like application for x64 is required and free so I picked Resourcer though it needs .NET Framework 2.0 and XP x64 doesnt have it coming by default in some case but I have no choice but to bet in Resourcer and modify its command-line code to work with resources I have. I sent the portion of my little nasty code as I want to keep changes minimum to the author of Resourcer and hope he will be OK with GPL license. Maybe?

Localization support
Yet another very very long wait is over :D. This feature has been requested for since earlier versions of Vista Transformation Pack (Maybe even Longhorn Transformation Pack). As you can see that there will be always significant changes in program UI each time I release, making translation file will surely be some kind of troublesome job to track for changes and fix it. Since Seven Transformation Pack, it appears to has lesser changes in program UI. This version shall be concluded as stable for program UI and functions so I decided to start translation support in this version. You can contribute the localization support by posting your modified vilang.sif in community so people can host a mirror with localized file you provided.

Major updates in 3rd-party applications
I don't know if this should really be called for another wait is over and I'm starting to feel tired talking like this. There're 3 applications that got updated in this release which are ViStart, TrueTransparency and ViGlance. For ViStart, it's more like rewriting than updating so not much of features updates in this release but dramatic improvement in performance and stability. It may contain some new bugs with winkey and new keyboard for now but please bear with it for now since that's all I can do with my caliber. For TrueTransparency, it's surprisingly more stable in this version so I decided to unmark this application from unsafe list as I missed features of Aeroshake and Aerosnap. This version also come with long-anticipated feature "blur"  supported so you'd better update for sure. For ViGlance, it has some bugs fixed like incompatibilities with new ViStart 7 and saving pinning items.

Well, that's all for 4.0 release in brief. Though previous version is called perfection but this version is something beyond the perfection. Have you seen any pack that does system files modification for both XP/Vista and x86/x64? No, right? So this is an innovation based on perfection. Ahhh, seems like I'm getting little cocky from finishing this challenging task. Let's just download from product page and enjoy the release now :P.

Sorry if you having a problem with 7TP but there is nothing wrong with it, it's working well!

Anyway you can uninstall it from 7tp welcome center or through add/remove programs at the control panel.

Seven Transformation Pack 3
Reply #70 on : Wed January 27, 2010, 10:25:07
I have been using Seven Transformation Pack-3 for some time now and it just wonderful!!! Everyone believes that it's the real thing until the "Windows XP" screensaver shows up! I was just wondering if you plan to create an updated version of Seven Transformation Pack-3 that eliminates the XP Screensaver Logo from the desktop and from the switch user or user startup screen? I've tried to turn it off, but it keeps on coming back! "Thank You!"

The shutdown bug
Reply #69 on : Mon January 25, 2010, 03:48:20
This is not a problem with 7tp4 but rather with the way ViStart shuts down. Ive tried adding the file dwwin.exe to the auto start programs and this works for a few shutdowns and then goes back to giving me bugs. Since thw windowsx guys seem not to be concerned about this bug, Il keep trying ways of going around it. But its not their fault anyways, im gueesing a newer version of ViStart would do the trick...

Reply #63 on : Sun January 10, 2010, 05:01:19
my experience of this on vista is terrible! it kept on giving one error or the other, the uninstaller didnt work and ultimately i had to use system retsore in safe mode to get rid of it.

i think its better to stay away from it specially if you are using vista.

i was using version 3 before then i saw that a new edition was available so i removed v3 and installed v4 the same way as i did with v3 but i just got problems the whole time!
for 1. the startup was horrible and kept saying error messages so it took me about 10minutes to log in and then i couldnt do anything else without getting bug messages so it took me about an hour to get rid of it and reinstall v3!! if anyone could help thatd be great

For Vista, please make sure you've tried it with these instructions
Reply #52 on : Sat December 19, 2009, 09:55:26
1. Turn off UAC and restart
2. Run as administrator
3. If it doesn't work, try it in safe mode (though I don't think it'll really help but it can avoid security center stuff nonetheless).

By the way, I tested it on Vista x64 as primary OS while I was developing 4.0. If you've done all above and still got stucked with imageres.dll, try this solution.

1. Open explorer
2. hold shift and right click on any folder and select open command window here
3. type this in single quote group 'takeown /f %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\imageres.dll' and enter
4. type this in single quote group 'cacls %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\imageres.dll /e /g "%USERNAME%:F' and enter
5. Restart (may not need but just to be sure) and try 7TP 4.0 again.

I apologize for very late response. I'm really busy with real-life situations here. Hardly sleep, going out to city almost everyday and all day long.

Some bugs in new ViStart and ViGlance maybe ironed later when Lee feels like to do it. He got some crap in his real life now too. I was also tense back then and guess we both need to take a break.

Well, I guess next release shall be something like bug fixes (if possible lol) and some new custom themes like black edtion and full wallpapers from Windows 7. But I'm not really sure for ETA yet.

Negative Colored Icons
Reply #46 on : Fri December 11, 2009, 21:00:23
The icons on the right of the superbar changes their colors into the negative version. Red becomes blue, vice versa, green becomes aqua, only neutral colors don't change (black, grey, white). I'm using Vista x32 Ultimate. First I used 7tp3, uninstalled it, installed 7tp4, then reinstalled 7tp4 again. What's happening?
